Sophie Frieda Paintings

My paintings are inspired by an initial
fascination with landscape. The flowing
rhythms working against solid structures
such as trees, creating a tension on the
picture surface.

  Transitions have always fascinated me.
When I arrived in the U.S. from England,
thirteen years ago, my work was trans-
formed by the challenging and stimulating
energy of the U.S. This expanded my vision
and allowed me to venture into the up close
power of nature.

  Gradually my visual world has been drawn
in; to focus on the intricate layers and
contours of leaves and plant life, where a
similar tension is created between the
layering and mesh of forms versus the
simplicity of the actual form and space.
I immerse myself into the picture by
exaggerating the strong organic shapes
and vibrant colors, where I find a very
positive and powerful life force. My goal
is to envelope the viewer into this exciting
and energizing world and come away feeling

Revitalized and Centered.
